Encouraging participants to openly discuss travel planning experiences was easier than anticipated; People were very eager to discuss their group travel woes. To gain deeper insights into the millennial group travel experience, we conducted in-depth interviews with a sample of six participants, exploring their planning behaviors, pain points, and decision-making processes.

Most trips were lacking structure
Users expressed frustration over the disorganization of trip details, often relying on scattered messages, spreadsheets, and multiple apps to keep everyone on the same page.
Budgeting and itinerary conflicts cause unnecessary stress
Participants highlighted the difficulty of tracking shared expenses and aligning schedules, leading to last-minute changes and financial disputes within travel groups.
We need one tool for everything
Many users desired a single, centralized platform to manage discussions, bookings, and cost-sharing, reducing the hassle of switching between different services.

We discovered group travelers often rely on multiple apps to coordinate plans, leading to fragmented communication. To position WeRoam for greater impact, we looked into how it compares to existing group travel planning resources. Transparency in cost-splitting and real-time updates are major pain points (opportunities) that were observed

Google Docs & Sheets
Google Docs and Spreadsheets are commonly used for group trip planning due to their collaborative nature. However, they lack built-in travel-specific features, requiring manual input for budgeting, itineraries, and booking links.
This is a free, highly-customizable service, making it widely accessible to users, however it does not feature any dedicated automation for cost-splitting, nor does it provide travel updates
Splitwise
Splitwise is a widely used app for splitting group expenses but does not include features for planning or booking trips. Users still need separate tools for itinerary management.
Splitwise offers a simple layout, while serving as a very effective means for tracking and settling shared costs within a group, but it doesn’t handle travel logistics and scheduling, or offer its users real-time collaboration.
TripIt
TripIt helps users organize travel plans by pulling booking details from emails into a single itinerary, but it’s designed for solo travelers rather than collaborative group planning.
TripIt boasts automated itinerary organization and email integration, but the budget management tools are limited. Additionally, because TripIt is aimed at users who primarily travel alone, there aren’t any collaborative features.
WeRoam differentiates itself by integrating expense tracking, itinerary management, real-time collaboration, and booking coordination into a single, user-friendly platform. Intel was the designated font for WeRoam due to its legibility and efficiency across a range of digital interfaces. Due to our product’s utilization of text-heavy solutions in content such as itineraries and itemized budgets,
Color
Color psychology played a huge role in establishing our product’s brand identity. While neutrals were present to balance cognitive load, green was the utilized because it communicates growth, harmony, and balance, reinforcing the theme of smooth, stress-free travel coordination.
While brighter greens introduce a touch of energy and excitement, aligning with the social and dynamic aspects of trip planning, darker greens instill a sense of trust and dependability, making users feel confident in the app’s functionality.
By combining Inter’s digital-first design with a thoughtfully curated color palette, WeRoam delivers a visually clean, inviting, and accessible experience. The high-contrast yet soft color choices ensure compliance with web accessibility standards, while the font’s clarity supports readability across all devices—key considerations for an app that aims to be both fun and highly functional for all users.
